Today my Facebook feed is riddled with much fear and confusion and as much as I’d love to just complete this Buzzfeed “The Hardest National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Quiz You’ll Ever Take” quiz – To remain silent would be wrong.
Friends praising the now 14, and growing, state governors that have written President Obama to attempt to opt out of their state receiving any (or anymore) Syrian refugees, my own state’s (TN) Caucus Chairman (Glen Casada) suggesting that we take the national guard and round up the refugees we currently have here. A reaction to fear, a terrible place to make decisions from.
I get it, it’s scary as hell with the recent attacks in Paris… But either this was a good idea or a bad idea, well before these attacks and thus merited action from these governors well before now.
Then there’s the opposite side of the coin;
Folks that feel like the only Christian response is to open our borders to any and all seeking asylum. Folks saying that it’s “the Christian thing to do”.
So here’s the hard fact;
You CAN NOT have it both ways. Either you want a Godly moral (God inspired) response or you don’t.
You can not take down the Ten Commandments, remove Jesus from schools, suspend coach Joe Kennedy in Washington for leading prayer after games, ignore the warnings of homosexualty being sinful (and legalize gay marriage) and then expect a moral ‘Christian’ response from a nation that you’ve tried to turn away from all the things of God. You can’t remove the compass and expect to find your way home, so to speak.
What does a Christ like response look like?
I do not know all the answers, I do know that decisions made from a place of fear are dangerous and suspect that if Jesus were walking the earth at this time, you may just find Him in the midst of these refugees. Sharing love and living life with them. Come Lord Jesus
